Earlier this year some friends built a new men’s hut across the airstrip from our house. A new house represents many many days of labor. Cutting down trees with axes, shaping boards with machetes, carrying boards to the site, gathering vines and roofing material from the jungle etc. When everything is ready, the home owners hold a ‘barn raising’ where food is provided and everyone pitches in to help build. It usually takes several days and is always a fun time.
